Description

JOB TITLE: Behavioral Health Counselor

JOB SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for providing professional counseling services to individuals, groups, and families experiencing psychological and behavioral challenges. The counselor will assess client needs, develop treatment plans, and deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to support improved mental health and well-being.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and client goals.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based practices.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including psychiatrists, case managers, and medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Educate clients and families about mental health issues, coping strategies, and available community resources.
  • Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and continuing education training.
  • Respond to crises and provide crisis intervention services as needed.

SUPERVISED BY: Hired, supervised, and evaluated by the Director of the Brief, Evaluation, Assessment, Treatments (B.E.A.T.) Department.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR)
  • Familiarity with co-occurring disorders and dual diagnosis treatment.
  • Bilingual abilities are preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education bachelors degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Licensure/Certification: Indiana LAC, or equivalent addiction certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a behavioral health setting.
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and client confidentiality.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to perform basic physical tasks such as walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require evening or weekend hours depending on program needs.
  • Occasional travel between facility sites or community partners.
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of times.
