DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES AND PROGRAMS Founded in 1988, F.A.C.E.S. provides counseling, education, and support to families who are going through the crisis of divorce. Our goal is to assist these families in rebuilding their lives in a healthy and violence free manner. We serve all of Orange County through our locations in Fullerton and Santa Ana. At this time, F.A.C.E.S. is the only non-profit organization anywhere in Southern California that offers mental health services on a sliding fee scale to low-income families struggling with divorce and separation. Our vision is “that all families who seek help will receive excellent care, unique services, emotional support and education they need to rebuild their lives.” To achieve our vision and mission, F.A.C.E.S. provides services through its five (5) main programs: The Family Counseling Program facilitates collaboration with local agencies to meet families in crisis and to strengthen family bonds while providing necessary transitional counseling into healthier living situations, which may or may not include divorce; The Family Preservation Program provides high-quality and affordable group classes to children and families that have been exposed to violence, neglect, or trauma. F.A.C.E.S. provides parents with group classes on parenting, co-parenting and anger management; through these classes, parents learn how to provide a safe environment for their children; The Common Ground Program provides monitored visitation and a safe environment for children who have been exposed to family violence, whether it is verbal, emotional or physical abuse. The families who participate can be assured that their children will have a safe, neutral and professional place to visit with their parents. Children’s groups are available for children exposed to hostility in separated families; the focus of these groups is to help the children deal with their feelings as a result of the hostility; Educational Institute: F.A.C.E.S. provides professional education and training to volunteer counselors and monitors. Our programs develop the skill set for effective counseling that leads to certification and acceptance into the professional community. F.A.C.E.S. also develops and publishes books and materials for use in violence and abuse prevention and in counseling those who are in abusive or dysfunctional relationships; Parent-Teen Program: empowers parents, of teens who are chronically absent from school, or having addiction issues, with skills and support that will assist them to encourage their child to attend school and avoid the criminal justice system. Some of the topics covered include: developmental needs of 13-18 year old youths, effective communication and discipline and conflict resolution. Target Population Any family in crisis is our target. We currently serve over 1900 families and 5400 individuals during the year and expect this number to grow significantly as awareness of our services spreads. We are particularly interested in those who, without our existence, would not be able to take advantage of our services namely, minority and financially challenged families in Orange County. Over 60% of those we counsel receive reduced payment plans. Service Delivery Plan Counseling services take place in our Fullerton, Laguna Hills and Family Resource Center in Orange office locations. F.A.C.E.S. offices are open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5 pm and evenings and weekends by appointment. In addition to English, other languages are spoken at our offices mental health volunteers (Spanish, Farsi). Counseling services are provided by masters-level marriage and family trainees and interns, supervised by licensed MFTs and Social Workers with a minimum of 10 years’ experience. Anger management and parenting classes are offered at both our locations. These classes are mostly offered during the evening for working clients. After completing the sessions, the clients receive a certificate of completion. Each class session lasts an hour and a half and is also facilitated by masters-level mental health professionals. At this time 18 groups each week are being offered, and in late March we will begin art therapy for children in our Fullerton office. The Fullerton office will also begin the Relapse Prevention Group, run by an alcohol and drug counselor.
