Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing mental illness through a combination of medication management and therapeutic interventions. The psychiatrist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care and improve overall mental health outcomes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct treatment in the context of individual, group and family settings.
- Provides case and program consultation and training to staff.
- May provide clinical supervision to other Edgewater Health professional staff.
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations and assessments for patients with various mental health disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices.
- Document services provided.
- Serves as a member of the treatment team.
- Reexamine clients to determine progress and indication for change or discontinuance of treatment.
- Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic/therapeutic medications while managing side effects.
- Examines and treats patients in various settings, (only if designated with hospital privilege), and clinics.
- Obtain and maintain medical histories, medical reports, and other records.
- Reviews procedures and test performed on patients and creates plan of care.
- Must have knowledge of pharmacology, administration of medication and adverse reactions.
- Provide call coverage, as needed or required.
- Comply with all medical record chart completion requirements on outpatients.
- Participates in improving organizational performance through involvement in agency and department quality improvement programs as needed.
- Responsible for following all organization and department precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
- Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of the departmental team to facilitate the meeting of departmental goals and objectives.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of medical policies and procedures and handle medical tools and equipment effectively. (i.e. stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, audio scope, etc.)
- Must have knowledge of crisis and medical emergency protocol, be able to administer First Aid as needed.
- Must have knowledge of infection control procedures.
- Assesses the physical needs of patients and confer with specialist physician when necessary.
- Interfacing and networking with outside contacts.
- Provide all medical directions and maintain medical protocols.
- Always maintain a minimum of the company’s productivity requirements 100% of the 75% requirement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with legal and organizational standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures and monitor infection control for facility.
- Provide psychotherapy and counseling as necessary.
- Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
- Participate in case conferences, clinical meetings, and ongoing professional development as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in psychiatry and mental health treatment.
- Ensure compliance with ethical, medical, and legal standards.
- Other responsibilities and tasks may from time to time be assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance issues, and quality improvement methodologies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire staff at all levels.
- Experience with community health initiatives and understanding of social determinants of health.
- Knowledge of federal and state healthcare policies and funding mechanisms.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
SUPERVISED BY: Hired, supervised and evaluated by the Medical Director.
EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED: Supervise PNP’s as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education – Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
- Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
- Licensures/Certifications – Valid medical license to practice in Indiana.
- DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
- Experience - A minimum of 1 year of experience in outpatient, inpatient, or community mental health settings preferred.
- Other- Must possess a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
